SRHC Picnic Train - Seymour to Maryborough

On Saturday 13th March 2010 join the Seymour Railway Heritage Centre (SRHC) for a relaxing long day out when the Heritage Train sets out from Seymour bound for the Historic City of Ballarat and the Central Victorian Goldfields town of Maryborough.
The train will depart the historic Seymour station nice and early at 7.00 am. Stops will be made along the North East line to pick up passengers at Broadford (7.25 am), Kilmore East (7.39 am), Wallan (7.55 am), and Essendon (8.35 am) before arriving at Spencer Street Station (Southern Cross) at 8.49 am.


The train will then depart from Spencer Street Station (Southern Cross) at 9.30 am. A stop will be made to pick up passengers at North Shore (10.54am) before the train heads onto Ballarat travelling via North Geelong for an arrival in Ballarat at 12.09 pm.

The City of Ballarat has a lot to offer with the Railway Station located in the historic Lydiard Street precinct that is close to the centre of the city with easy access to the Fine Art Gallery and the shopping precinct.
After setting down passengers who have elected to spend the afternoon in Ballarat enjoying the local attractions, the train will depart at 12.20 pm on the next leg of the journey with an expected arrival in Maryborough at 1.29 pm.


The historic Maryborough Railway Station has recently been subject to a superb restoration. It is home to thousands of antiques and collectable items. There is a Café and the Regional Wine Bar located in the station. At the Wine Bar quality wines from the regional wine centre can be enjoyed by the glass or bottle – all at cellar door prices. Over 26 wineries are represented, many with gold and silver medals to their credit.

The train will depart Maryborough at 4.15 pm and will arrive in Ballarat at 5.24 pm for only a brief stop to pick up passengers; before departing at 5.30 pm for the return journey to Melbourne (via North Geelong). The option Dinner will be served during this journey.

After a stop to set down passengers at Footscray (7.52 pm) the train will arrive at Spencer Street Station (Southern Cross) at 8.06 pm. After completing locomotive changes, the train will depart at 8.40 pm on the home leg of the journey. Stops will be made to set down passengers at Essendon (8.48 pm), Wallan (9.25 pm), Kilmore East (9.45 pm), Broadford (9.59 pm) for an arrival back in Seymour at 10.26 pm.

Special carriage State Car Number 4 will be available for inspection during the journey. This carriage is quite unique in its own special way and adds to the atmosphere of the Picnic Train. All passengers may take the time to inspect this carriage in operation!


On Train Services A Kiosk and Bar will be in operation during the journey providing a range of snacks and refreshments for passengers to enjoy during the journey. Maryborough Premium Class (Option) For this tour the SRHC is introducing an optional Premium Class package on this tour for passengers destined for Maryborough. For a Fare Supplement of $50 per person an all inclusive package will provide you with travel in air conditioned seating in a former Spirit of Progress Carriage with morning tea, afternoon tea and exclusive access to former Spirit of Progress Parlor Car. Please note that seats for this option is limited and is only available for through travel to Maryborough.

OPTIONAL EXTRAS
As we will generally be travelling during meal times we have organised the following optional menu items that will need to be pre-ordered. (These are in addition to traditional sandwiches, pies, sausage rolls and pasties that will be available from the Kiosk.)

Lunch (Option)
The option for Lunch is a Wrap Pack - a Meat and Salad Wrap with a choice of Virginian Ham, Breast Chicken or Seasoned Egg. This meal also comes with a Fruit Snack, a Homemade Slice and a Fruit Drink. The cost of this optional meal is $11.

Dinner (Option)
There is a choice of Virginian Ham and Garden Salad, Seasoned Roast Chicken with Tossed Salad, or Zucchini Slice with Mixed Green Salad. This Meal also comes with a Bread Roll and Butter Portion, a Fruit Snack, Cheese and Crackers, Mini Sweet Muffin and a Fruit Drink. The cost of this optional meal is $15.00.
