SRHC Easter Picnic Train - Seymour to Tocumwal

On Easter Saturday; if you are looking for an enjoyable way of getting together with your family and friends then why not join the Seymour Railway Heritage Centre (SRHC) for a relaxing day out that takes in Heritage Train Travel and quality time in the Murray River town of Tocumwal (NSW).

On Easter Saturday 3rd April 2010 the Tocumwal Picnic Train is scheduled to depart the historic Seymour Railway Station at 8.40 am. Stops will be made at Nagambie (9.10 am) and Shepparton (10.06 am) to pick up passengers.

During the journey a kiosk and bar will be in operation aboard the train providing a range of snacks and refreshments. Special carriages on this train will include State Car No 4 and the former Spirit of Progress Parlor Car. Both of these carriages will be open for inspection during the journey.
The train is scheduled to arrive in Tocumwal at 11.45 am. You will have over 3 ˝ hours in Tocumwal, so you may decide to

  • Bring along a Picnic Lunch and enjoy it on the River Foreshore.

  • Dine out in one of Tocumwal’s eateries.

  • Enjoy one of the Easter Heritage Train Tour Options (More details see below). These options must be pre-booked.

  • Do your own thing!


Optional Extras

The Seymour Railway Heritage Centre is offering three optional tours in Tocumwal. The prices for these tours are as listed. The options are:-:

Tocumwal Gold Club Luncheon Town Tour Chrysties Museum- $35 per person
A coach will meet the Train and will depart the Tocumwal Railway station for the Tocumwal Golf Club where you will enjoy a two course luncheon at the famous RAAFters Golf Club Restaurant. After lunch you climb back aboard the bus for a Town Highlights and Sightseeing Tour.
The sightseeing tour will take you to Chrysties Museum where you will be delighted by the amazing collection of memorabilia. Everything from the kitchen sink to fabulous restored cars and machinery. After the Museum visit, the bus will arrive back at the Tocumwal Railway Station, where you can enjoy Afternoon Tea (own expense). Take a step back in time as you enter the Railway Museum and rooms full of memorabilia - be amazed by the mural of the first train to cross the Tocumwal Railway Bridge in 1908.

Jerilderie Exploration with Lunch at the ‘Oasis Pantry’ - $30 per person
A coach will meet the Train and will depart for Jerilderie (the town held up by the infamous Ned Kelly and his gang). Arriving in Jerilderie there is time to visit the Ned Kelly PO, Walk along “The Hawkins Walk” and enjoy the pristine beauty of the Billabong Creek the longest creek in the Southern Hemisphere. See the steel windmill, the largest working windmill in Southern Australia. You can Visit the Ned Kelly Blacksmith Shop or Ye Olde Bank (at own expense) At 1PM we will visit the historic Willows Museum and lunch at “the Oasis Pantry” in the Willows, where you will have the opportunity to purchase local produce. Tea and coffee will be available at extra cost. At 2PM you will depart Jerilderie for a drive through the picturesque countryside to Finley. We will be concluding this tour at 3PM arriving at Tocumwal Railway Station you can enjoy Afternoon Tea (at your own expense). Take a step back in time as you enter the Railway Museum and rooms full of memorabilia - be amazed by the mural of the first train to cross the Tocumwal Railway Bridge 1908.

Tocumwal Railway Luncheon, Finley Log Cabin Museum and Berrigan Tour - $30 per person
Soon after arrival in Tocumwal, Lunch will be served in the Railway Station Tea Rooms before departing for Finley. Upon arriving in Finley at 1:15PM we Visit the Finley Log Cabin Museum with many interesting pieces of machinery from a bygone era. After our time in Finley you will depart for the township of Berrigan (the Home of Federation), were you can take a leisurely stroll through this village. After touring Berrigan you arrive back at the Tocumwal Railway Station at 3PM were you can enjoy Afternoon Tea (at your own expense). You can also take a step back in time as you enter the Railway Museum and rooms full of memorabilia - be amazed by the mural of the first train to cross the Tocumwal Railway Bridge 1908

The departure time for the return journey from Tocumwal is 3.30 pm.
