Awesome! Let’s get started… As experienced operators of heritage trains throughout Victoria we can guide you through the myriad of decisions that go into making your idea a reality.
But where and who are we?
Seymour Railway Heritage Centre commenced operations over 40 years ago at Seymour, about 120km northeast of Melbourne. We have a large collection of heritage locomotives and carriages on both broad and standard gauge, many of which featured on the famed ‘Spirit of Progress’ and others were actually built for royalty!
What is a gauge?
Good question! Victoria has two railway gauges – that is – the distance between the two tracks. It’s a long story as to why but the good news is we have trains on both, meaning we can travel to virtually all parts of Victoria.
Once you have decided where you want to go from and to, we can start talking about which parts of our fleet are available on which gauge. If you start getting lost with the options then we highly recommend visiting our yard where we can show you first hand just what is available.
How many people can I take?
That’s up to you! We can take a few people for an intimate outing up to several hundred at a time. In the past we have run trains for birthday parties, weddings, large tour groups and corporate events.
How much will it cost?
This is ultimately determined by many things including where you want to depart from and travel to, what time of year, how many carriages you will need, weekend or week day etc.
What types of carriages?
We have a large fleet – but let’s start with where to sit. On both gauges we have side corridor compartment cars. Each compartment seats 6-8 people, with a maximum of 64 people per carriage depending on the type selected.
We also have air-conditioned and non air-conditioned carriages so think about the time of year you would like to travel.
Depending on the gauge you can add open platform cars, dining cars, lounge cars and kiosk cars. Lost already? Don’t worry we can help you with more information or show you around the carriages.
